Odesa is a city with a unique history and cultural wealth that has experienced significant damage in recent years. As a UNESCO Cultural Protection Award laureate, I, Claudia Coku, an international expert in security, forensics, and cultural heritage protection, am joining the initiative to support the restoration of Odesa’s cultural monuments.
Throughout my professional career, I have worked on protecting historical sites in Europe, the USA, and the Middle East. My experience in international investigations, combating the illegal trade of antiquities, and developing security strategies for cultural heritage allows me to suggest practical steps for restoring Odesa and its architectural legacy.
Step One: Documenting Destruction and Creating a Unified Database
Odesa has seen the loss of many important cultural landmarks. However, before restoration begins, it is crucial to conduct a detailed assessment of the damage.
